Stop making pizza the normal way! This recipe features an upside-down pizza baked in a screaming hot cast iron pan for crispy, caramelized edges and a ridiculously delicious result. Uses fresh pizza dough and a variety of savory toppings.
1. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) with your cast iron pan upside down in the oven so it gets ripping hot.
2. While the oven and pan heat up, stretch your fresh pizza dough bigger than the pan. You want enough to tuck around the edges later.
3. Once the oven and pan are hot, carefully pull the pan out and build the pizza upside down directly on the hot pan in this order: Pepperoni first → jalapeños → mushrooms → shredded gouda/monterey jack cheese → pizza sauce → garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasonings.
4. Lay the stretched dough over the top of the assembled ingredients and tuck the edges around the pan.
5. Sprinkle a little parmesan and more Italian seasoning on the dough.
6. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for about 20 minutes, or until the dough is golden and the edges are crispy.
7. Then, carefully flip it out onto a cutting board and let the crispy, caramelized edges do their thing before slicing and serving.
